15lbs and counting

Okay, I thought it was 20 for a while but I had forgotten my starting weight. However, I don't think 15lbs is terribly bad so I'm doing a little "yeah me" on the old blog.

However, I have a beef with weight watchers. Somehow, they seem to integrate the need to obsess over every little thing into their program. I was on the boards today and everyone is FREAKING out about Thanksgiving. It's one day, eat your turkey and move on. Hey, I'm only have one dinner on Thur. and one on Fri. so I'll be ahead by one this year.

If I have to be crazy obsessive about every little thing, I'd rather be fat! Life is too short to wonder.

That said, I do appriciate WW for breaking me of the fast food habit and the mindless eating habit. I think those things alone have helped.

My game plan is to keep losing by just diet modification. When that stops working I'll kickstart my metabolism with excercise.

Okay, recipie of the day:
Miso fish with ginger veggie stir fry
I made this last night and Fox loved it too. Very low in calories (250 for a serving I think) and very tasty.

For the fish:
8 ozs of light white fish (the recipie calls for mackrel but I used orange roughy)
2 tbs of white miso
fresh or powdred ginger (as desired)
chili powder (as desired)
mint
1/2 cup white wine (sake if you have it, otherwise a semi-dry or sweet white wine)

Pour the white wine into the pan and bring to a boil. The original recipie called for 1/2 of the wine but I found it didn't cover the bottom of my pan so I added more.

Once boiling add the fish. Sprinkle chili, ginger and mint over fish. Simmer in the wine until the edges are done (took me about 5 min or so).

Flip the fish and reseason. Then, add the miso into the wine sauce. This stuff is paste like so I put one tablespoon on one side of the pan and then another on the opposite side. Then, mix it into the wine sauce until no lumps remain. Once you are finished with this, the fish will be about done so flip to coat in the miso sauce and plate. You can use the sauce to garnish, but that will add more calories to the dish.

Ginger Veggie stir fry

1/2 bad shelled edamame
3 bell peppers ( red, yellow and orange)
Shitake mushrooms (1/2 cup)
Bean sprouts, water chesnuts or bamboo shoots as desire (bean sprouts should go in at the end if used)
Emerils Ginger Terriyaki marinade
Chili power
Mint

Slice the peppers and mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. Add all the veggies and stir fry with the terriyaki sauce until veggies are warm through and crisp. Veggies should retain their color. I used about 1/2 cup of marinade for a fairly large quantity of veggies. Season with chili powder and mint and use as a base for the fish. Very filling!

Oh well.

This is my first week of no loss. I maintained but did not lose at all. However, I know what I did:

1. ate within my points, but just barely
2. ate little portions of "bad foods" rather than larger portions of "good foods"
3. Didn't drink enough water
4. Didn't get in good amounts of Fruits and Veggies.

I need to go grocery shopping (especially now that I found my calculator)

I plan to make this in the near future:

Veggie Pita

1 whole wheat pita
1 serving roasted veggies (got a container of already roasted from Dierburgs)
1 tbs. Hummus
1 oz Fat Free Feta
1/2 cup salad greens
1/4 cup Tabouli (spelling?)
1 pinch alfalfa sprouts
1 squirt lemon juice or low cal balsamic vinagrette

Will heat the veggies and the pita first, then stuff the rest in.

I'm going to put it into the recipie builder but I'm guessing 6-7 points. Should be a nice, filling dinner.

I went to Trader Joes with Fox a few nights ago and netted myself some goodies. Only bummer, the Puffins cereal I got was way higher than I guesstimated. It brings my breakfast up to 4 points. Oh well.

I'll try to get to the grocery store this weekend and stock up on some veggies and fruits. The 30lbs of apples we got from Eckerts (that's right 30lbs) has finally gone bad. We did well. Ate probably 90% of the apples. I have a mango at home. I might make some mangoberry smoothies this weekend for breakfast next week.

Oh, find of the week X butter. I didn't know that you could make "butter" out of apples and pumpkins but you can! Apple butter is awesome (we have a whole festival for it down here in good ole Barnheart, MO) . I got pumpkin butter from TJ's. Haven't tried it yet. It's a good break from margarine.

so far, so good

So far, I've lost 10lbs on WW. I don't really feel it, but I guess when there's a lot there......

I'm getting bored of my snacks though and I still have a LOT left. I need to get some new ideas and maybe start brainstorming late night snacks and such.

The Diet Thing

This is the second incarnation of this blog. First, it was a homepage for a diet I created called, "The Diet Thing". It was named this because people kept asking me if I was still doing that, "Diet Thing" I was always talking about. The diet I created worked, I lost 25 lbs. in 10 weeks.

Sadly, I gained all the weight back over the course of a year. I reverted back to bad habits, got lazy and forwent excercise for more lesiurely activities. As the pounds came back my skinny clothes because unwearable and my fat clothes became my skinny clothes. It was either invest in a new wardrobe or lose some weight. Also, I had tipped over the reach of petitie clothes and it was very hard to find nice size 16 petites. So, since my weight was only going to increase, I figured I had to head it off at the pass.

So, in an fit of impulse I joined Weight Watchers Online. It was roughly similar to the plan I had created (based primarily on calorie counting) and since it's been around forever, I figured had some credibility. The best part, no meetings. I'm fairly up on health and information and I know the reasons I overeat so I was not too keen on an hour of "self help" every week.

So, here I am. Here to impart any food/health news I can find and give recipies as I discover them. Please note that I am not a dietitican nor a nutirionist and I am not affliated with Weight Watchers except as a member. Also, all points values given on the site are approximate and should be verified if you are following this plan through the recipie builder. Also if you're an E-tools member or an online member, I usually submit orginal receipies to the Community forum under the name lisamariepava.

Enjoy. Mangia.
